Listowel Cyclones Open Weekend with Split Against GOJHL Powerhouses

LISTOWEL, ON — October 19, 2025 — The Listowel Cyclones this weekend with back-to-back games that showcased both their potential and resilience, facing off against two of the league’s top teams. The Cyclones hosted the defending GOJHL champions, the Chatham Maroons, Friday night at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena before heading on the road Saturday to face the Strathroy Rockets.


Friday Night: Cyclones Battle Hard Against Maroons

In front of a the hometown crowd, the Cyclones took to the ice Friday night with energy and intensity, going toe-to-toe with the reigning champions. Despite a scoreless first period, the Cyclones broke through early in the second.

Just 47 seconds into the middle frame, Captain Jack O’Donnell capitalized on a power play opportunity, firing home a rebound to give Listowel the 1–0 lead. The goal was set up by Hudson Wiles and Jordan Visneskie, both showing excellent puck movement on the man advantage.

However, Chatham showed their championship pedigree in the third, netting three unanswered goals to take control of the game. Refusing to go quietly, O’Donnell struck again late in the third with an unassisted effort, his second of the night, to bring Listowel within one. Despite a strong final push, the Cyclones came up just short, falling 3–2.

Goaltender Ethan Kowatsch stood tall between the pipes, turning aside 38 shots and keeping the Cyclones within striking distance throughout.


Saturday Night: Cyclones Rebound with Road Win in Strathroy

Less than 24 hours later, the Cyclones hit the road to face off against the Strathroy Rockets at the West Middlesex Memorial Arena. After a quick start by the Rockets, who tallied two goals in the opening period, Listowel responded with poise and determination.

At 15:58 of the first, Jack O’Donnell continued his scoring streak with his third goal of the weekend, assisted by Lyndon Cabral and Aaron Dukeshire, cutting the deficit to 2–1.

The second period saw Listowel take control. Aaron Dukeshire notched his first career GOJHL goal, capitalizing on a well-executed play with assists from Dylan Szymanowski and Ryan Cranny. With momentum building, Jordan Visneskie tallied his sixth goal of the season at the 18:00 mark, assisted by Dukeshire and Cabral, giving the Cyclones their first lead of the night.

The third period remained tightly contested, but the Cyclones held their ground defensively, securing a 3–2 victory on the road. Once again, Ethan Kowatsch delivered an outstanding performance, stopping 33 shots to preserve the win.


Looking Ahead

The Cyclones (3–8–1) return home this Friday night to the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop, where they will face off against the Waterloo Siskins in what promises to be another competitive GOJHL showdown.
